Hundreds of Pennsylvania dairy farmers rallied in the state capitol Tuesday to ask for support of federal efforts to recognize the value and health properties of whole milk, and the importance whole milk plays in children’s physical growth. Earlier in the day the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee voted unanimously to support House Resolution 222, sponsored by Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester/Lancaster), that would urge the U.S. Department of Agriculture to enforce the standard of identity for milk and milk products; and House Resolution 402, sponsored by Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana), that would recognize the value of whole milk and support federal legislation authored by U.S. Congressman GT Thompson to ensure whole milk would be available in schools. Rep. Struzzi said he strongly supports the effort to ensure whole milk would once again be available to school children.
